Chamber funding passes four-to-one

Here's the article from Catoosa County News...

The County Commission voted four-to-one in favor of continuing to support the business community in this County. Only Chairman Clark, who proposed withdrawing funds from the Chamber, voted against supporting the business community.

What surprised me most, however, was when Chairman Clark argued that the county should not invest tax dollars into an organization that "consists of the most wealthy people in the county." I find that statement a bit disingenuous, insofar as Chairman Clark would very likely be counted in that same group of "the most wealthy people in the county."

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Anyway, we certainly recognize and appreciate the support that was demonstrated by the vote. While many in this community may not recognize the direct benefits that the business community provides, especially when roads are deteriorating, sewers need to be extended, etc., the jobs, tax revenues, community partnerships and myriad other programs and direct benefits to the community are considerable. Without a vibrant business community (supported by a Chamber of Commerce) our way of live would be horrible! The conveniences we take for granted would not exist -- except in other communities.

Kudos to the following commissioners who have taken the appropriate and important step in acknowledging the vital role the business community plays and the support provided by the Chamber of Commerce, and for acknowledging the Chamber's contribution by voting to continue the County's investment:
